Change...lots of it.

As I was blog stalking the other day, Austin asked me how I never ran out of blogs to read.  He said I should probably be updating ours rather than reading 1,000 blogs belonging to people I don’t even know.  He was right, so here I am!
Our life has changed quite a bit from the last time I wrote.  We were living in Texas, which was an awesome experience to live away from everyone and learn to rely on each other for everything.  BUT I don’t think we would do it again…not selling pest control at least.  Anyway, since then…we’ve moved into a new apartment, I got a new job, Austin is going to a new school, we’re in a new ward with new callings as well as a new (to us) car.  Talk about change!
When we got back from Texas, we moved (when I say moved…I mean 2 suitcases and my purse) into my parent’s house until we both found jobs and an apartment.  Thankfully Austin’s work at Zions had just gotten rid of someone so there was an opening right as we got here, so he’s working at Zions again.  As for me, I couldn't find a job (not that I wasn't enjoying it…) BUT we did find an awesome apartment really fast.  It’s a basement apartment in Kaysville and is about 1,000x bigger than our last apt.  We LOVE it.  When we first saw it, the lady that lives upstairs was having her son in law fix a few things in the bathroom before we could move in, so while he was doing that, we painted our butts off.  We painted every room except for the kitchen and painted the cabinets in the kitchen as well.  It looks way better and it was really fun to be able to 1: not have to pay for an apartment we weren't living in yet and 2: make it ours by painting everything (as well as getting reimbursed).  Best thing ever.  AND I didn't have a job at the time so I had all the time in the world to paint and work on projects for our new place.  It was awesome.  I’ll upload some pics of the progress later.

As for my job situation…in September I got a job at Franklin Covey at the call center for a temporary job until January.  Side story: In September Austin won tickets to the state fair on the radio, so I went to pick them up at Simmons Media and while I was picking them up I thought, “This would be so fun to work here…I wonder if they’re hiring.”  Then, I’m not even kidding you the NEXT DAY my sister Lindsay texts me and says that one of her clients who works for Simmons Media needs some help in her department and is looking for a full time employee to start as soon as they can.  Obviously me and this job were MFEO.  (Made for each other: Sleepless in Seattle)  So I met with her the next day and the day after that she called me to tell me I got the job.  I don’t know why, but I have always wanted to work at a radio station.  I was so excited!  So now I’m working there in the Traffic Department which basically controls all the commercials and their order, frequency, etc.  I have loved it so far, mostly because I’m not in customer service for the first time in my life, I can wear jeans to work, come in at like 9:30-10 and listen to music all day while I solve my commercial puzzle for the next day.  I love it.  And no, I’m not going to school anymore.  I realized what I was doing wasn't something I was passionate about and I was wasting time and money for us, and it wasn't the right time to start all over with something new.  So I’m now Austin’s sugar mama and we’re trying to get him through school right now.  BTW he is now going to Weber and he’s loving it.

Our new ward has been great so far.  We are definitely the youngest by far, but we've gotten used to that.  Austin got a calling a couple weeks ago as the ward mission leader, and I was called last week to be in the Nursery, and will once again not be able to get to know anybody in the ward besides the chillins.  But they are so cute that it doesn't matter.
The last of the changes is our car.  Austin’s parents were nice enough to let us use their “kid car” since we've been married and it’s been so nice to always have 2 cars.  Dalton, Austin’s brother came home from his mission in September and he’s now using it, so we bought a little Civic for Austin.  (By the way...I had never met Dalton until now, which was a little weird but it's been fun to get to know him and basically get a new family member) We got a good deal on the car and it’s in awesome condition…….then after we bought it we took it in for safety & emissions.  It failed.  Big time.  After that $900 repair, we just recently had to replace the battery, and we’ll have to replace the tires before winter.  Cars are the worst.

Besides that, we’re doing great and really loving life in general. Hopefully you'll hear from me before another 6 months passes :)

Our first week...

Well, we made it!

After a very long 22 hour car ride (split up into two days, of course) we made it to San Antonio!  It was actually really fun to drive with each other down here.  Every few hours I'd ask Austin if he wanted me to drive and every time he declined.  I found out when we were in Albuquerque staying overnight that he wanted to say he drove the whole way there.  I had no problem with that.
The first night here was kind of hard.  It took a while for them to figure out our contract and everything, so we hung out in the office for about an hour until we could finally go up to our apartment.  Our apartment is supposed to be furnished, and it was, but when we walked in the TV was missing as well as a kitchen table.  Our bed was covered in plastic and we didn't know we could take it off.  So we laid down on it and both started crying because of how uncomfortable it was.  (It was memory foam...which we are both not fans of.) We were exhausted, and a lot of things had already gone wrong...so having an uncomfortable bed was the last straw of the night and we had a little crying session.  Since then, we found out we could take the plastic off and it's been a lot better :)  Besides that, we absolutely love our apartment!  All the furniture is new and really nice.  We have a cute little balcony and a big walk in closet (for the few clothes we brought with us) and plenty of room for my shoes!  ;) It also has a pool, which I have spent much time at and gives me something to do when Austin is gone.
It has been quite an adventure so far!  Austin has made a lot of friends who are on his team and he starts work at 8:30 in the morning and doesn't get home until about 10 at night.  He's been working really hard and I'm so grateful for a husband who's willing to work so hard in crazy conditions.  It's still spring here and it feels like the middle of summer in Utah...it's so hot.  There's only one other guy here who has a wife, and we've become friends along with her 2 darling kids.  I've been spending my time working at the office with some crazy people, but it's a good way to pass the time.
We've already had some amazing mexican food here, and are excited for more!  It's been so fun to live in a new city and step out of our comfort zones (big time).  We ventured out to the River Walk, unknowingly, but we weren't able to see the river.  We went to see Iron Man, which was amazing by the way, at the River Walk mall but the movie theater was pretty equivalent to Kaysville Theater.

Anyway, this was not supposed to be a long post.  Sorry to whoever reads this.  But here's some pictures! Sorry for the weird order/orientation.
Stopped here in ABQ...delicious!

This is our "We're halfway there!" celebration picture :)

There's TONS of room for these babies!
This is our very uncomfortable bed, which we are getting used to.

All my exes live in Texas....

Actually, non of our exes live in Texas.  That's besides the point.  I thought I should inform everyone that Austin and I are going on an adventure this summer….we’re moving to San Antonio, TEXAS!  We’re leaving in 3 weeks, and I’m freaking out!  We will be working our tails off though, Austin selling pest control and me working in the company’s office there.  We heard about this summer sales deal from Austin’s friend in January, who went to Kansas City and made over $50,000.  I’m sure we won’t make that much, but we’re hoping to make some money!  It will be really hard for Austin, since he'll be working pretty much from 9 in the morning until dark…so basically all day.  But we are hoping it will be worth it.  We're really excited to try something very new and take a chance.  Texas should be really fun!  There's a Six Flags just about 5 mins from where we're going to live, so we might be going there a few times :) and there's also a Schlitterbahn about an hour away, which is supposedly one of the best water parks in the world!  There's the Alamo, the River Walk, tons of Mexican food, and I'm sure I'll find a place to find me some cowboy boots.  I’ll have a lot of free time on my hands, so if anyone wants to visit San Antonio this summer, you've got a place to stay!  Wish us luck!!!

P.S. If you knows the song quoted in this post title, you're awesome.
